General Summary

The Mobile Unit Driver & Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe operation, transportation, maintenance, and readiness of mobile medical units and health center fleet vehicles. This position performs general maintenance and repair duties for facilities, mobile units, equipment, and vehicles while ensuring all fleet assets are maintained, inspected, compliant, and prepared for daily operations. This role supports the organization's mobile healthcare services by transporting medical units to designated locations and assisting with setup, troubleshooting, and operational readiness.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Safely operated fleet vehicles in compliance with all DOT, and company policies and regulations. 
  2. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of mobile units and fleet vehicles.  Ensure mobile units are clean, fueled, stocked and operational for patient service.  
  3. Operate company vehicles to travel to and from service locations, ensuring proper setup, secure positioning, and safe return to base operations. 
  4. Coordinate routine vehicle maintenance, inspections, repairs, and registration renewals.  Monitor fuel usage, vehicle condition, and preventive maintenance schedules.  Maintain fleet records, including service histories, insurance documents, and regulatory compliance documentation. 
  5. Maintain vehicle logs, inspection records, mileage reports, and maintenance documentation. Conduct regular fleet safety inspections and ensure compliance with organizational policies and transportation regulations. 
  6. Assist clinical and operational staff in coordinating mobile unit deployment schedules. Assist patients with enrollment forms, applications and data entry into Practice Management Software.  
  7. When not driving, perform routine maintenance and repairs on warehouse, yard, buildings, grounds, mobile units, and equipment assigned by supervisor. 
  8. Maintain confidentiality of company and customer information. Complete HIPAA training. (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) 
  9. Perform other duties as assigned to support transportation and operational needs.               
Work Experience
Required
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience operating large vehicles, buses, RVs, or commercial vehicles requiring a Class B license. 
Preferred
   
● Experience in transportation, logistics, delivery services, or passenger transportation.
    ● Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and DOT compliance requirements.  

Education/Certifications/Licensure
Required
  • High School diploma or GED 
  • Valid Class B or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) operated appropriate for vehicle classification.  
  • Current Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Physical), if applicable. 
Preferred
  • Additional transportation or safety certifications
Skills
Required
  • Safe vehicle operation and defensive driving skills.  
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety requirements. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision 
Preferred
  • Route planning and logistics experience 
  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge
  • Experience using GPS, routing software, and ELD systems 
Physical Requirements

If a preliminary offer of employment is extended, a physical will be required before the offer can be accepted.

Light to medium duties include standing, walking, reaching, bending, climbing in and out of commercial vehicles, and talking for up to eight (8) hours per day. Requires the ability to sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods. Must be capable of loading, unloading, securing, and handling cargo as needed. Requires the ability to safely lift a minimum of 50 pounds without assistance and push or pull up to 150 pounds with appropriate equipment. Requires performance of duties in varying weather, traffic, and road conditions.
