- Frequent significant decision and problem solving abilities.
- Good communication skills is necessary.
- Ability to supervise pre-school children and ensure a safe environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in classroom and outdoor play areas.
- Physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need restraint or redirection in order to insure their safety or the safety of others in the environment.
- An Associate Degree in early childhood education or coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education
- Experience teaching preschool-age children.
- Annual certification and training in the following are required: Health Certificate, First Aid Certification and Adult and Infant / Toddler CPR Certification, Food Handler Card.
- Must attend 24 clock hours of professional development and staff training per year to include training on methods to handle suspected or known child abuse and neglect cases, that comply with applicable federal, state, local and tribal laws, training that builds their knowledge, experience and competencies to improve child and family outcomes
- Any other trainings as outlined by the Head Start Performance Standards and Minimum Standards from the State of Texas.
- PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in early childhood education or coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.
- Prepares updates and maintains required records and reports for each child and their family using manual and automated data system to submit accurate reports on a timely basis.
- Assure general maintenance and security of facility. Attend meetings, training's, and appropriate professional development activities.
- Submits written requests for supplies, equipment, material, forms and other necessary items to the Cluster Manager.
- Conducts personnel action for the classroom Teacher Aide, to include employee evaluation and recommending personnel action, including termination and promotion within established Agency policies.
- Obtains the assigned non-federal in-kind amount on a monthly basis.
